Our Team

The Mixed Reality Project started in the University of Osnabrueck at the beginning of 2009.

We first participated at the Mixed Reality Workshop in March 2009, realized at the Fachhochschule Wolfenbuettel. There we met the three other German teams: WF-Wolves, RT-Lions and Northern Stars. Two of them also new to the league.

At our first competition - RoboCup German Open 2009 - we got the 2nd place. We played against three other teams, including the world champions WF-Wolves. First, at the round robin fase, we classified at second place, disputing the semi-finals against the Northern Stars. We classified for the finals against the RT Lions, but unfortunately this game we lost by 2:1, making it the most disputed game at the competition. For the first time in the MR League there were official games with 5 versus 5 players. The environment wasn't very stable, which affected all teams, nevertheless we managed to play full games.

At the RoboCup Graz 2009 in July we won 2nd place from seven teams. The environment was much more stable, but still with some issues in the vision tracking, what made luck count a little, but mainly it was good enough. We played with 5 versus 5 players in a stable environmet for the first time in history. At the round robin phase we classified at first with 55 goals scored and just 5 goals suffered. At semi-finals we played against MRL (Iran) and won by 4:3. At finals we played against RT Lions (Germany), with whom we had scored 3:3 in the previous phase, but unfortunately this time we lost by 3:4 in a very disputed game. We managed to put 3:1 against them, but they were able to turn the game during the second half. It appears that Osna-Be! versus RT Lions is the classics of Mixed Reality at RoboCup. Osna-Be! left thrilled for a next confrontation.

In 2010, we played at the Mixed Reality internal's German Open 2010 in Kiel, against the other three German teams. The competition was supposed to be a warm up for the International RoboCup, but we were taken by surprise when it was announced that it was going to be our German Open of 2010. For strategic reasons the team decided to seize the opportunity to continue making tests, since we do not have the physical environment at our university, as a preparation for Singapore. After the first round we ended up at first but at the end of the competition, after some technical problems with the robots during our last game, we got 3rd place, ending up in front of our friendly rival RT Lions.

We also participated of the RoboCup Singapore 2010. This competition was a little bit turmoiled at the beginning for our team but at the end we managed to have a spectacular turnaround. Unfortunately, we were still depending on another team's result to classify to the semi-finals and we weren't able to make into the first four, so we ended up at the 5th place from eight teams. It's important to notice that at our last day of competition we won by 8:0 against the 3rd place, a victory even wider than when the champion played against them at the same day only scoring 4:0. Our team left with great potential to be champion again!

And, as suspected, in next year Osna-Be! won the RoboCup German Open 2011 held in Magdeburg. The games were with 7 versus 7 players for the first time, and the environment stabler than ever. The finals were played against the world champions WF-Wolves being a very disputed match, which Osna-Be! won by 6:5. We are now German Champions (with the taste of World Champions)!!!
